Sungnyemun is the South gate of seoul. It was built in 1395 during the reign of King Taejo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. And then it was renoveted several times. It was designated the country's national treasure No. 1 in 1962. It was stood in Seoul for over 600 years.

However, a fire broke out at Sungnyemun few days ago. It was the last holiday of new year's day. Sungnyemun burnt out overnight and it burnt to the ground. Many citizen cried. The reason of fire was arson. It was found that the arson was by one old Korean man, which made many people embarassed. I was so said about that fact, too. Now thinking, Sungnyemun looked really good at the site it used to be. It was with many high modern buildings and cars, but never looked shabby. And many Korean was proud of the dignity of Sungnyemun, too. But now it's our shame.

Sungnyemun was opened to everybody in 2006. But the protection of gate was not prepared. It was too easy to get arson. Many people are resentful of this fact. But nothing can be done by anybody. Korea's national treasure No. 1 was dead by a Korean and lots of indifference and negligence. Now it takes more than 3 years and lots of money. However, now we should think about other country's National Treasure. We should protect them, preparing from other tragedy.

Your article was heartfelt and informative. I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I watched live as Sungnyemun burned to the ground and wondered how and why someone would do something like that. The only good news was that nobody was injured or killed. Still, it was a terrible loss, and I was saddened to see it go. I hope Korea decides to restore it back to its original splendor. I still remember walking by it in the wee hours of the morning after Korea played France in the 2006 World Cup. I had watched the game on a jumbotron with hundreds of thousands of others near City Hall. As I passed the ancient gate, I thought to myself how cool it was to see a beautiful traditional structure surrounded by modern skyscrapers and city sprawl. What are your thoughts on the subject? Sungnyemun is Korea first treasure.but try to burn of Sungnyemun who was Korean
People.I'm surprised to heard the fact.
However I get angry that Korea government evasion of responsibility.
Actually many korean also have a mistake.but we are unavoidable keep burnning of
Sungnyemun.however some politician shirk to citizen.I'm get angry that they activity.
Actually government late for countermeasure.
