< Reflctions on Regular mail >
Regular mail is frequently called " snail mail" because its speed feels like "the speed of snail " in this speed-oriented world. However, when we find our mail box full of bills and unwanted advertisements, we miss good old days when we could find pretty envelopes with friends'familiar handwritings and sometimes surprise letters in the mail box. Surely, Regular mail has a few but irreplaceable advantages. First It has deep sentimental value. I have kept one box filled with letters from my high school friends until now. At the time, I was rather melodramatic toward life like many other teeange girls and used exchanging letters with my friends as a means of expressing all kinds of my ideas about everything around me. Hundreds of letters reminds me of the days when I looked forward to getting a letter from my friends by checking the mail box everyday. Even now, These letters have served as a good memento
to recall my high school days. Secondly, regular mail can impress and win somebody's heart more than any other form of communication. I knew a female senior who had received one hundred letters from a man for three years and they finally got married. Love made by letters sounds more romantic than anything else. Third, writing a letter improves more sophisticated writing skills because regular mail tends to be longer and form-focused than e-mail. Fourth, from a practical viewpoint, regular mail can be more convenient for those who can't use e-communication. Since not everyone is mechanically inclined, regular mail should exist for those people. Despite these regular mail's good points, it has a crucial drawback. that is, a slow speed. The phrase "Slow speed" never seems to match this high speed technology world. We live in a highly connected world by power broadband, "Speed" is the most important aspect in our daily life. Why do we bother to get a piece of pretty paper, write by hand, put stamp on it and go to the mail box instead of some typing and clicking? It can be too much of a hassle. In addition, e-mail is way cheaper than regular mail. We don't have to wait for the reply for too long in e-mail. We can check if my friend received my e-letters instantly. Also, Instant mail allows us to communicate each other in a similar way we make phone calls. In conclusion, while e-mail can provide us with convenience our times required the most just like fast food, regular mail has the special emothional values and makes our heart warm just like home-made slow food. That's why we sometime miss slow and old things although we can't live without the benefit of high technology.
